Summer Jumpstart
Capital will offer our first-year students the option to enroll in online Signature Learning classes this summer to jumpstart your college experience! These select courses, taught by some of our most dynamic professors, will give you the opportunity to start your education with classes that are required for all Capital students. Make the most of your summer to allow more time to explore other class and learning options during the academic year.

Capital University would like to offer accepted undergraduate students the opportunity to study with some of our most dynamic professors. This course work will jumpstart your college career as you complete required Signature Learning (General Education) courses. Starting in the summer and continuing through your Capital career, you will be provided with wraparound services; virtual learning communities, academic coaching and tutoring, early academic advising at the start of your academic career at Capital, and early engagement with Capital’s outstanding leadership development and career exploration team. All classes will be delivered remotely and we use a Learning Management System, Zoom, and other online tools to help with the delivery of these courses so you will need appropriate technology to participant. Our Information Technology staff will help make sure you are ready to learn on the first day of class.
Why Signature Learning Courses?
All undergraduate students, no matter what major, achieve the Signature Learning outcomes during their time at Capital and we are offering these summer courses that satisfies many of these learning outcomes. We focus these courses on Signature Learning because these foundational courses will assist you in all aspects of learning from intellectual skill development, exploring modes of inquiry, and challenges fundamental cultural and ethical assumptions. It enables students to think critically and reflectively on vocation, citizenship, service, and religious and ethical commitments.

What are the benefits of Summer Jumpstart?
Lower Tuition. Summer is a great time to study at Capital. You receive individual attention and you can complete a semester course in a short seven weeks. And tuition is reduced in the summer to $514 per credit hour which is normally $1,298 per credit hour during the academic year. Unfortunately, financial aid is limited during the summer. We can connect you to a financial aid counselor to explore what is best for you.
Seven Week Terms. Capital offers two term options: Summer Session I runs from May 17 – July 2 and Summer Session II runs from July 5 – August 21. A variety of courses are offered, which fulfill requirements for graduation in any major. A full description of classes and schedule are listed below.
Priority Advising for Fall. As a Jumpstart student you will also get a jumpstart on academic advising for fall classes. Our Master Advisors will work one on one with you to ensure you take the appropriate classes this summer and sets you up for success in the academic year.
Make Your Load Lighter. Taking classes this summer gives you the flexibility to manage your course load down the road. Completing Signature Learning courses now provides you with greater options to free up your schedule in a future semester and takes you a few steps closer to pursuing your college degree. It may also allow you to explore other courses or even an academic minor later in your college career.
Connect Sooner. Virtually meet new friends and peers while also building relationships with advisors and faculty before fall semester starts! Campus support and resources are open and available to you, including academic tutoring, career exploration, and leadership development training.
Register Now. Flexible Drop Options. As a Summer Jumpstart student, you have the flexibility to register for classes now, and if life changes between now and the first day of classes, you can drop classes without a financial worry. Tuition is fully refundable through the start of the course. If you have not yet deposited, your deposit fee will also be waived if you select to join the Summer Jumpstart program.

Fulfills Signature Learning Reading and Writing Requirement. A study of written communication conventions aimed at developing students’ abilities to form, express, organize, and support their ideas clearly and effectively in writing. The skills in focus are those of reading, writing, research, and critical thinking. Students produce at least four projects totaling about twenty-five pages of writing and culminating in an argumentative research paper of ten plus pages.
