    • Biography

      Dr. Laura Kitchel is very excited to begin her position as a new faculty member in music education at Capital. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University of Kentucky. She taught 3 years in a small rural school in Archbold, Ohio and spent the following three years in an urban setting in Jefferson City, Missouri. While at Jefferson City High School, her Women’s Choir was selected to perform at the Missouri Music Education Association conference. At the University of Kentucky, she was the Director of the Choristers and Assistant Director of the Women’s Choir and UK Chorale. After the completion of her master’s degree, she became Director of Choirs and Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Lexington Christian Academy, where she directed the Intermediate, Junior High, High School, Men’s and Women’s Choirs. 

      In 2012, she moved back to Missouri and worked at Moberly High School where she was Fine Arts Department Chair, directed the Mixed, Concert, Chamber, and Women’s Choirs, and taught general music and beginning guitar. Her choirs in both Missouri and Kentucky won Adjudicator’s Awards and were selected Top Choir at Heritage Festivals in Boston, New York City, and Chicago. At the 2009 Boston Heritage Festival, Lexington Christian Academy choirs won the Choir Sweepstakes award and her choirs at Moberly High School won the same award in 2014 while in Chicago. 

      She recently graduated with her PhD in Music Education at the University of Missouri where she conducted the Concert Chorale, Women’s Chorale, and taught Choral Rehearsal Clinic. She just finished a year teaching classes as a lecturer for the music department at The Ohio State University.
