    • Biography

      As professor of Piano and head of the keyboard area, Dr. Tianshu Wang won the prestigious Praestantia Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2011, which is the University's highest honor. She also is a Steinway Artist, a privilege extended to the world’s most distinguished pianists. Other Steinway Artists include Billy Joel, Michael Feinstein and Lang Lang. Wang’s studio includes a number of outstanding pianists who are winners in competitions at all levels. An active performer, Wang has appeared on China's National TV and in many cities in this country and throughout Asia. Her solo album entitled Piano in China appeared on the cover of Fanfare magazine. In addition to teaching at the Capital Conservatory of Music, Wang is a professor and chair of the Piano Department at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music in China where she works for three months every year. 

      Acclaimed by the press as a “superbly talented pianist” who plays with “prodigious technique and eloquent phrasing,” Wang has graced concert stages in the United States, China, Mexico, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan. Invitations to perform in Europe are also in the offing.

      Winner of many competitions, including a national first prize, she is active in both solo and collaborative performance and has performed with major orchestras in China and the United States. She has been a regular juror of the National Piano Competition in Beijing since 2005. Respected as a distinguished artist and teacher in her native China, she was featured in a cover story of the country’s most prestigious piano magazine, Piano Artistry.

      Professor Wang has presented lectures and recitals in numerous state, regional and national conferences, and she has given master classes at California State University (Long Beach), Ohio University, Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore, and the Rajabhat University in Bangkok, Thailand, among others. Her article on piano pedagogy was published in Keyboard Companion.
