Meet the Conducting Staff
Capital University Department of Music Education
James Dowdy has retired after having taught for nine years in the community of Canal Winchester and 21 years as a teacher of middle and elementary bands in the Worthington School System. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Conservatory of Music at Capital University and has earned his master’s degree from The Ohio State University. He is the former director of the Capital University Junior Winds and is past president of OMEA. He is also a member of ASBDA and Phi Beta Mu.
Hilliard Weaver Middle School Band Director
Angela Davoll, in her 30th year of teaching, is the band director at Hilliard Weaver Middle School. Along with her duties at Weaver, she instructs music at two additional schools in the district. She also provides private clarinet instruction for area students. Ms. Davoll has presented several clinics at the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Conference and adjudicates large group and Solo & Ensemble performances for schools throughout Ohio. She received her bachelor’s degree in music from the Conservatory of Music at Capital and her master’s degree in music education from The Ohio State University. Ms. Davoll currently holds professional memberships in the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
Kilbourne Middle School Band Director
Ryan Alexis has been teaching in the Worthington City School District since 2006, where he is the Director of Bands at Kilbourne Middle School. In addition, he also assists with the Thomas Worthington High School Marching Band, directs the TWHS Cardinal Jazz Band, and conducts the TWHS Pit Orchestra. Ryan is currently the Director of Junior Winds, and has an active studio, teaching saxophone lessons, and coaching saxophone ensembles. He received a BME from The Ohio State University School of Music, and an MMME from The Conservatory of Music at Capital University. Ryan is a member of OMEA and ASBDA, and has served as a treasurer for the OMEA South-Central Region.
Columbus Academy Band Director
Susan O’Rourke has taught in central Ohio for 29 years, having served in the Columbus Catholic Diocese, the Worthington City Schools, Polaris Christian Academy and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University in addition to her current tenure at Columbus Academy, co-teaching middle and high school bands. Susan is currently the Director of Capital's Cadet Band, and a staff member for The Ohio State Flute Workshop. A long-time member of OMEA, Susan is an adjudicator and past clinician. She received her bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s in woodwind pedagogy from The Ohio State University.
