Transfer Application

College students make changes for all sorts of reasons. In fact, changing is part of college life. You might change majors (once or twice!), you’ll meet new people and make new friends, and you’ll discover who you are as you continue in your journey.

At Capital, we welcome you to campus as a new student, a transfer student, or a student wishing to complete your degree. You’ll find our faculty, staff, and students will be a great support and can answer questions that you might have. We offer an array of programs, scholarship opportunities and services designed just for transferring students. And 99% of students who transfer to Capital receive some form of financial aid.

Bring your college credits and life experience with you.

As a transfer student, you bring knowledge gained from previous college experience. That time in school and the courses you completed (and paid for) may translate into credit you can apply toward your degree at Capital. As a prospective student, you’ll be assigned a transfer admission counselor to help you determine how much credit you have and where it will be applied. Here’s what we look for from transfer students:

General transfer student requirements

• You will need a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for all previous college work.
• If you have fewer than 30 semester college credit hours, we’ll also use your high school information in making admission decisions.
• You must also be in good academic and social standing at the last institution you attended.

Special requirements for transfer students in music or nursing

• Music — in most cases, music students must also complete an audition
• Nursing — nursing students are considered on a space-available basis but must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average and a 2.75 cumulative science grade point average.

We also offer ways for you to earn college credit for knowledge gained outside traditional college education settings. Your life experience and any non-collegiate coursework you have taken in your career may translate it into credit toward graduation. Your counselor can answer questions about transferring credit, available majors, the application process and any financial aid you qualify for.

What's the application process?

1. Transferring to Capital starts with our application or you can add us to your Common Application.
2. Have your official transcripts from all institutions you previously attended sent to Capital University (Office of Admissions, 1 College and Main, Columbus, OH 43209-2394). Electronic transcripts through a third party transcription service are also accepted. Have them sent them to transcripts@capital.edu.
3. If you have fewer than 30 hours earned at college, your official high school transcript is required for the review and submitted (as indicated in Step 2 above).

Important dates to remember

Applications may be accepted past these dates if space is available. For preferred course selection, apply before the deadlines.
