Partner in Education awards are made to full-time traditional undergraduate students seeking their first undergraduate degree who are members of participating Lutheran congregations. Capital University matches funds contributed by the congregations up to the annual maximum of $500. You must contact your pastor each year to identify your congregation’s level of participation. This award is not applied to a student’s account until the congregation's donation is received. Awards are matched for a maximum of eight fall and spring semesters (four years).
As this award is meant to be an expression of congregational support for a student’s pursuit of higher education, the governing body of each congregation is responsible for determining the procedure by which the congregation provides for and finances its portion of the award.
Note that IRS tax code Section 170 (a) states a charitable deduction may not be taken for a contribution from which the donor receives or expects to receive an equal financial or economic benefit, or for personal, living or family expenses. This would prohibit a relative of a Capital University student from personally financing the award by making a contribution to the congregation solely for that purpose.
Funds from the church must be received by the university no later than June 15 and only congregational checks will be accepted.
