
2022-23 Columbus Youth Symphonic Band
Sponsored by Capital University’s Conservatory Preparatory Division, the Columbus Youth Symphonic Band (CYSB) was created to provide an advanced performance experience for the finest high school wind players and percussionists in the central Ohio area. Membership is open to any student in Grades 10-12 who participates in their high school music program.

Columbus Youth Symphonic Band Audition Requirements
Woodwinds and Brass
Auditions for CYSB must be recorded and submitted by video and include the following:
- 2 Major Scales Click HERE for scale requirements.
- A brief, unaccompanied excerpt from a solo or etude 1-2 minutes in length that displays the student’s best lyrical playing.
- A brief, unaccompanied excerpt from a solo or etude 1-2 minutes in length that displays the student’s best technical playing
Percussion
- 1-2 minutes of an unaccompanied solo or etude on Snare Drum, Keyboard, and Timpani
Audition Process: All CYSB auditions will be done through online submission this year. Audition videos should be recorded using a phone, tablet, or computer. Students should submit their video through a 3-Step process:
At the end of the form, you will be asked to include a link to your audition video. All audition recordings must be submitted by no later than Friday, October 21. Students and their families will be notified of results on or around Friday, November 4.
CYSB Registration Fee
There is an annual fee of $200 to participate in the CYSB. No student will ever be denied the opportunity to participate in the CYSB because of financial need. Tuition assistance is available through Capital if the registration fee is cost prohibitive for families.
