      Rave Story

Capital University has added a new app to its safety communication tools to help keep our community safe. The Rave Guardian app is a virtual mobile safety tool that turns your cell phone into a personal safety device.

Separate from the CapAlert emergency notification system, which sends you texts and emails during an emergency, the Rave Guardian app is a personal alarm system, and crime-reporting and emergency-call tool all in one.

Guardian is a personal alarm system that will notify people you trust — friends, family or authorities — if you're someplace unfamiliar, if you're in trouble, or if you don't reach your destination on time. You can also call campus police or 911 directly, and — through the EyeWitness "Send a Tip" button on the app — report crime or suspicious activity.

Rave Guardian and Eye Witness enable you to be the eyes and ears of Capital police by reporting suspicious or criminal activity, or inappropriate behavior, on Capital's campuses. Communicate directly with campus police anonymously with EyeWitness via text messaging technology. Reporting crime is quick, easy, secure and discrete. Some examples of inappropriate or criminal activity you can report include reporting bullying, hazing, fighting, social media abuse, vandalism, burglary or possession of illegal drugs on the premises.

      1. Select the send a tip button from the emergency menu.
      2. Put your crime tip information in the text field at the bottom of the screen and hit send.
      3. Campus police will correspond back with you to get more information if needed.
      4. Hit the photo button next to the text field to send campus police pictures of the crime for investigation.
To sign up for the Rave Guardian, go to the App Store, download the app that's appropriate for your mobile device and follow the installation and setup instructions. After you’ve set up a pass code, identify your guardians. Make sure they’re people you trust, like friends, family or authorities, because these are the people who will be notified if something is wrong.

Standard text messaging rates apply, but there is no cost to use the system. Any time, day or night, you can use Rave Guardian and EyeWitness to text a crime tip or report suspicious activity to campus police. You don't have to be on campus for it to work. Even if you live off campus and in Bexley, your crime tip will be shared with the appropriate police department. If you have any questions about EyeWitness and how it works, please call Capital police at 614-236-6666.
