Capital University co-sponsored the 2017 Central Ohio PRSA PRism Awards, held last week at the Columbus Athenaeum, and the Power of Purple turned out in full force. Capital alumnus Kevin Terry Smith, of Leadership Columbus, received the Rising Star Award, and recent grad TJ Carpenter was recognized as a PRSSA Outstanding Graduate. John Palmer ’04, of the Ohio Hospital Association and COPRSA Chapter's immediate past president, helped organize and run the awards program. We were delighted to share a table with Capital alumnus Kyle Anderson, AVP for Marketing and Communication at State Auto Insurance, another event co-sponsor, and the room buzzed with many other Capital alumni doing good work in and for the PR field and region, like Fahlgren Mortine’s Marty McDonald and Ann Marcum. Keynote speaker Mary Yost, editor of Columbus CEO, reminded us that the best public relations is invisible because the ethics and principles it espouses are embedded in an organization’s culture. Calling out a few examples of organizations and CEOs who embody that model, Yost highlighted Joe DeLoss, of Hot Chicken Takeover, also a Capital graduate, among other remarkable leaders who make Columbus the vibrant region it is. We could not be prouder of our CapFam, including professors like Lois Foreman-Wernet, for their agency in building smart, ethical, innovative and socially conscious organizations and communities. With Purpose.
