  • TESOL Online Endorsement

    The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement is for anyone who holds an Ohio teaching license. This completely online graduate-level, accredited program prepares teachers to interact with ELL students in grades K-12. Candidates in the TESOL program enjoy small class sizes delivered by experienced TESOL and SIOP-trained faculty. Courses are offered every semester and in the summer. The program is offered fully online, in an asynchronous mode.

    Course Requirements
     Education 550 -- Issues in Second Language Acquisition: Theory and Practice (4 credit hours)
     Education 560 -- Studies in English Language Structure and Linguistics (4 credit hours)
     Education 570 -- Sociolinguistics and Culture (4 credit hours)
     Education 580 -- Assessment, Evaluation and Program Development in TESOL (4 credit hours)
     Education 600 -- Practicum-Classroom observation (5 credit hours)

    Reading Endorsement

    Earn your Graduate Reading Endorsement at Capital and set yourself apart from others. Building on your previous reading foundations, you will make connections with theory as well as cutting edge best practices for your classroom through our hybrid workshop model. This state accredited endorsement will earn you the tile of “Highly Qualified” in reading in Ohio and will also give you strategies to enable your struggling readers to reach their full potential. 

    Course Requirements
     Education 511 -- Content Reading and Genres (4 credit hours)
     Education 521 -- Advanced Teaching of Writing (4 credit hours)
     Education 531 -- Phonics, Word Study and Literature (4 credit hours)
     Education 541 -- Seminar in Literacy Research (4 credit hours)
     Education 551 -- Assessment and Intervention (4 credit hours)

    Format: Classes meet once every three weeks- with online learning taking place throughout. 
    Prerequisites: Prior reading hours required - amount based on your licensure type
    Endorsement Examination: Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE): Reading Subtests (I&II)
