Walks of Collegiate Fame

One of the cool things about Capital's campus is how accessible  and close by everything is.  Instead of walking 15 minutes to a class, I roll out of bed at 8:30 and still have plenty of time to make it to my 9am class.  Walks around this campus become familiar and comfortable.  While those familiar faces might rush past a LITTLE faster as friends run late to class, I always find it to be a pretty cool collegiate scene that makes me realize, 'Wow, I'm in college."

There are three particular "walks" I would like to highlight.  I shall call them "Walks of Collegiate Fame."  Sure, none of these lead me to stardom, but they make me feel pretty darn good about life.

1. The "I Just Got A Purple Slip" Mail counter Walk.
Any Capital student will tell you about this kind of walk.  It is the walk to the mail counter after you receive a purple slip in your mailbox.  The purple slip tells of something waiting your pick-up at the mailroom counter.  Although this walk may be a few short steps, "prancing" is the term I would use to describe myself making this trip.  After all, it's not everyday you get something worthwile in your mailbox- and when it's big enough to not fit in your box, you really hit the jackpot.  Sure, it could just be a textbook you ordered online. or in my case, sorority fundraiser flyers.  Either way, the excitement that you feel in your fingertips as you sign off for the package feels like you're signing an autograph for adoring fans.

2.  The "I'm Finally Done With This Assignment" Computer Lab Walk.
Its just a fact of life that some people put a lot into certain assignments/homework/papers.  Being the perfectionistic consciencous achiever that I am, I always tend to spend large amounts of time on certain assignments. I also happen to be a procrastinator.  They get done alright, but rarely before the night before.  Last night, as I put the finishing touches on a 10-page science research paper, I knew a glorious walk was ahead of me.  As I saved everything on my jump-drive, I pulled that puppy out of my computer and waved it around in the air as I paraded my accomplished-self down to the first floor computer lab in my residence hall.  Nothing says "Happy Marta" more so than the click of a "Print" option or the sound of staple metal hitting the paper.

3. The "Hey!? Why Are All My Classmates Walking the Opposite Way?? Walk
Right up there with the walk to the computer lab, this is probably my favorite. It happened to me about a half hour ago, folks. I'm still reeling from the feeling.  As I walked to my 2pm religion class, I began to see the familiar faces of my classmates walking the opposite way. My little heart could barely take it.  I greeted a fellow classmate who informed my class was cancelled.  For those of you who can't identify with this collegiate joy, its the college equivalent of seeing your school district's name scroll across the "closed" list on snowy days.  I  grinned with happiness and did an excited 180 back to my room. I happily shared the news with others.  Did I win Publisher's Clearing House? Was a new baby born? Is Jesus Christ risen?  Well, not quite. But class is cancelled.  Let the celebration begin.

The celebration has yet to begin.  I vowed to come back here and escape the bitter cold and curl up in my down blanket on my top bunk.  I realized though it would be selfish to keep these Walks of Collegiate Fame to myself.  So there you go, blog fans.  Just for you.  Have a glass of wine on me. Send me the bill never.

That's it and that's all,
-Marta

P.S- While I was at home in the PGH this weekend, it came to my attention that my dear mother sent out one of her "Hey! Marta has a blog! Read it!" emails to all of our family and friends.  If you are reading this as a result of that email, or just because you like me a whole lot, leave me comments! I love knowing who my audience is!

    Good one Marta.

There's a musical on campus in December that would be interesting. See if you can get the details.

Yes, I'm guilty of receiving a note from your mother, however that note brings excitement as to what may appear. Will it be about you? Will it be about that new interest ;-)? Will it be about ME??? Yes we are all a bit crazy here, just waiting to absorb the experiences you provide. We're just plain folk lookin' for a little excitement. You keep writing and we'll keep enjoyin' knowing and appreciating you. In the immortal words of Bob Hope (I know, who the heck is Bob Hope? I'm old deal with it.) Thanks for the memories. Here's to you, Kid!

    Hey Marta!
Your Mom is here. It's about 4 P.M. and we've been messing on the computer. She showed me how to get your latest Blog. How neat.
You're a good writer, Marta. Keep it up! Hope I can find it again!
Seems like it is easier to talk on the phone for me. Ha! Adam and your Mom are playing Labyrinth and
    Grandpa is reading. ALan, Martha
and Leah went to a volleyball game to watch the team that Leah's team will play next. They
sure had a good season so far.
Well, bye for now. We love you,
    Grandma & Grandpa
