    About Capital

  • Capital is a private four-year undergraduate institution and graduate school located in the Columbus, Ohio, community of Bexley. At Capital, we’re about transforming lives. Your life. Your future. And ultimately, we’re about transforming the world — through the impact that we know you will have on it.

    The Capital Student
    Engage and Empower

We know that an engaged student is a successful student. In the classroom, in their pursuit of a vocation, and in their community. At Capital, we have over 100 student organizations and clubs because we believe in engaging and empowering our future leaders.

Each year, more than 700 new Capital students embark on a journey toward their future, bringing with them a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. Whether it's their first time in college, they're finishing their bachelor's degree, or they're pursuing a graduate degree, here they immerse themselves in a rigorous curriculum, grounded in the liberal arts and relevant to the world that awaits them.

Like you, they thought seriously about what they wanted in a university and selected Capital for its choice of 60 majors, 10 graduate degrees and its passionate and engaged faculty, who will be their partners on their educational journey. Our belief that every student can and will have a positive impact in our evolving world gives everyone at Capital a vested interest in your success and fuels our determination to work together—as teachers and students, and as mentors and scholars—to bring about meaningful change.

A comprehensive, independent university founded in 1830 and rooted in the Lutheran tradition, Capital is the oldest institution in Central Ohio. Its student body of about 3,600 students engages in active learning and hands-on experiences in and out of the classroom, high-impact experiences that optimize learning and prepare them with the skills and confidence to become purposeful leaders in their communities and in their fields.

In the vibrant metropolitan area of Columbus — a city that often makes “top 10” lists for livability, technology, opportunity and jobs—students plug into a diverse economy that’s home to many Fortune 500 companies in the third largest city in the Midwest. For our students, Columbus becomes a training ground that offers ample opportunity for internships, research projects and community service, as well as a chance to take those first steps toward changing the world.
