A Focus on Health and Healing

Preparing nurses to make a lasting difference. One patient, one community at a time.

Nursing

More than a career that can bring students success, it is a career of significance. Nurses can be found in a variety of settings from hospitals and clinics to labs, sports recreation, schools, business, and even in flight–in air and space! Capital’s School of Nursing is committed to developing professional nurses who combine knowledge and hands-on skills with the ability to think critically and make clinical decisions in the fast-paced healthcare environment. A thorough foundation in the liberal arts helps Capital graduates understand and respect the worth and dignity of individual patients and families. Throughout the direct entry program, students will participate in laboratory practice in the school’s skills laboratories in state-of-the-art simulation facilities both at Capital and at affiliating partner healthcare agencies.

“Holistic nursing is a big part of the nursing curriculum here at Capital. Our professors are great at explaining what it means and how to embody it as a nurse in practice. It involves caring for the whole person, addressing not only their physical illness but also assessing their mental, emotional, and spiritual needs and providing assistance in all these areas. I would say that it also extends to me. After learning about the concept, I am able to care for the whole person too."

Clinical Experiences

Capital nursing students graduate ready to practice because they've already been doing it. With more than 800 hours of hands-on clinical, lab, and simulation experiences woven throughout the program, our holistic approach to nursing allows students to develop clinical judgment and competency in real healthcare environments.

Our clinical partnerships place students at premier Central Ohio institutions including OhioHealth, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and The Ohio State University. Specialty experiences including OhioHealth immersion program opportunities and dedicated psychiatric and mental health rotations broaden exposure across care settings and patient populations. Every clinical nursing course includes simulations, providing students a safe, supported environment to develop their knowledge and skills.

Our Philosophy

Capital's School of Nursing prepares you to care for the whole person, combining a focused nursing curriculum with a liberal arts foundation that builds critical thinking, cultural competence, and clinical judgment. You'll graduate ready to serve diverse patients and communities across a healthcare landscape that demands skilled, adaptable nurses. Our program develops nurse leaders who deliver high-quality care while respecting the dignity of every person they treat.

Simulation Labs

Capital's nursing simulation labs give you the chance to practice real clinical skills before you ever step into a hospital. Our state-of-the-art labs feature high-fidelity human patient simulators spanning the full lifespan, from infant and pediatric to adult, so you can build confidence across the populations you'll actually care for. With a 4:1 student-to-simulator ratio, you get significantly more hands-on time and direct faculty attention than you'd find at larger programs. Every scenario mirrors real-world healthcare settings, so when you walk into your first clinical, you're ready.
