10:50 a.m. - As of this morning, AEP continues to estimate power restoration for affected areas by Friday, Aug. 14. Given the extended outage and to support students in impacted residence halls, the University is offering temporary accommodations in Schaaf Hall and Cotterman Hall for residents without power.
Available space is limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis to students affected by the outage.
Rooms in Schaaf and Cotterman are configured for double occupancy and are furnished with the standard University-provided furniture, including a twin XL bed, desk, chair, and dresser. Depending on demand and room availability, students utilizing temporary accommodations may be assigned a roommate for the duration of their temporary stay. Students should bring their own bedding, linens, clothing, medications, chargers, and personal toiletries.
Please note that these accommodations are temporary and do not affect your permanent housing assignment.
Students interested in securing temporary accommodations should contact me directly at tsnee@capital.edu.
Students who choose to remain in their current assignment may continue to access Schaaf Hall for showers, device charging, and other basic needs.
We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we continue to navigate this extended power outage. Additional updates will be shared as information becomes available.

4 p.m. - Severe weather has caused a power outage affecting portions of the Bexley Campus and the surrounding community. AEP has advised that power restoration could take up to 72 hours. We understand the disruption and inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as crews work to restore service.
Students living in residence halls without power may remain in their buildings at this time. Cold water is expected to remain available for restroom use during the outage.
Students affected by the outage may also use the following campus spaces:
Schaaf Hall: Shower facilities, device charging, air conditioning, and space to gather are available.
Student Union: The building remains available to students as an additional air-conditioned space with power.
Cap Center: Showers available until 9 p.m. this evening.
Residential Life staff and Public Safety will continue to monitor affected residence halls throughout the outage and will maintain required fire watch procedures where necessary.
If you are in a building without power, please conserve your phone battery and use flashlights (no open flames). Report any immediate safety concerns to Public Safety at 614-236-6666.
We will continue to share updates as we receive additional information about power restoration or if campus conditions change.
Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and understanding.
