Capital University Law School Bar Exam Passage Rate Rises

These results of first-time takers in July rank fourth highest among Ohio law schools

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Law School students taking the Ohio Bar Exam for the first time in July 2026 achieved an 83% passage rate, the fourth highest in the state. The result marks a three-position rise in the rankings since July 2024.

Marc Falkoff, J.D., who became dean of Capital Law School in June 2026, praised the students’ achievement and recognized the faculty and staff whose dedication helps prepare graduates for successful legal careers.

“For nearly 125 years, Capital Law School has provided applied and experiential learning that equips students with the practical skills to practice law and serve clients, employers, and communities from day one,” Falkoff said. “Because of our downtown location, our students learn in a building just a short walk from the courthouses, government offices, and law firms that anchor Columbus’s legal community and Ohio’s government.”

Capital Law School’s longstanding presence in Ohio’s legal community is reflected in its distinguished alumni, including numerous graduates who have served on the Ohio bench, and its extensive network of legal professionals throughout the Columbus area. This legacy underscores the Law School’s commitment to graduating knowledgeable, skilled, and practice-ready attorneys.

“Our Law students serve as clerks and externs in the chambers and law firms surrounding our building. They also benefit from the teaching and mentorship of judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and law firm partners who work alongside our full-time faculty,” Falkoff said. “This close connection to the legal profession is one of the reasons our students continue to rise in the rankings among first-time Ohio Bar Exam takers.”

Capital University President Jared R. Tice, Ed.D., praised Falkoff’s leadership and its alignment with the Law School’s longstanding mission.

“Dean Falkoff has brought a clear commitment to the kind of accessible, practice-oriented legal education that has been a cornerstone of Capital Law’s mission for more than a century,” Tice said. “Opportunity and outcomes are at the center of all we do, and this is reflected in our improving bar exam results.”
