BEXLEY, OH — Capital University Law School professors Rachel L. Hampton and Anthony Marcum have launched “Capital Watch,” a new weekly blog featuring short, timely analysis and commentary on Ohio law and policy at capitalwatch.blog.
“With our location in downtown Columbus, in close proximity to lawmakers at the Statehouse, the courts, large law firms, and other policymakers, we felt this could be a valuable resource,” said Hampton, professor of Legal Research and Writing. “The content will be versatile, including news of the day, commentary, and a blend of law and policy. It will serve as a bridge between legislation and public understanding.”
“State law governs so much of our daily lives, but it is often overlooked because we tend to assume nearly everything is decided in Washington,” said Marcum, an assistant professor who teaches civil procedure and administrative law. “With contributors bringing a range of perspectives, we see a real opportunity to inform readers about state government and foster civil debate.”
Marc Falkoff, dean of Capital University Law School, said, “Capital Watch is a great example of the kind of community-engaged projects that leverage the expertise of our faculty for the benefit Columbus and Ohio.”
Earlier in his career, Marcum served as counsel to U.S. Senator Ben Sasse and as a resident fellow at the R Street Institute. He also practiced law in Michigan and clerked for U.S. magistrate judges in West Virginia and New Hampshire.
Prior to teaching full-time, Hampton worked as a litigator in private practice at two law firms in Chicago and Columbus, primarily focusing on civil trial and appellate litigation, and served as a law clerk in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
