Capital University Names Dr. Marc Falkoff as the Next Dean of Capital University Law School

Following a national search, Capital University has named Dr. Marc Falkoff as the next dean of its Law School.

“Marc’s many years of experience in the classroom and in the courtroom, in addition to strategic leadership and proven commitment to student success, will support ongoing efforts to advance innovation, deepen alumni commitment and community engagement, and build an even stronger future for Capital University Law School,” said Capital President Jared R. Tice, Ed.D.

Falkoff brings a compelling combination of energy, innovation, thoughtfulness and proven leadership in legal education, Tice said. “He understands what makes Capital Law distinctive: our historic commitment to access and opportunity, our strength in practical and practice-ready legal education, our location in the heart of state and local government, and our deep connection to the Columbus legal community.”

Falkoff currently serves as visiting professor of Law and senior associate dean for Faculty Affairs at Rutgers Law School, as well as professor of Law at Northern Illinois University College of Law in DeKalb, Ill., where he also serves as director of the NIU Prisoners’ Rights Project.

“I am deeply honored to have been chosen to serve as dean of Capital University Law School, and particularly proud to be joining a school with nearly 125 years of enhancing access to legal education,” Falkoff said. “I was drawn to Capital Law by its tight-knit community of faculty, staff, students and alumni, who all recognize the value of law school as an engine of social mobility.”

Tice said it became clear throughout the search process that Falkoff brings many qualities to support the future of Capital Law School and the success of its students.

“Marc has proven leadership in areas central to the dean’s responsibilities, including academic affairs, admissions, faculty development, accreditation and strategic planning,” Tice said. “He brings a clear commitment to the kind of accessible, practice-oriented legal education that has been a cornerstone of Capital Law’s mission for more than a century.”

In addition to earning a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School, Dr. Falkoff’s academic credentials include bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in English, as well as a doctorate in Higher Education Administration.
