Biography

Joan Berry Kalamas, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, is a full time full time Faculty member teaching Human Resource Management and Business Management undergraduate and MBA courses in the College of Business and Economics and MBA programs at Ashland University and is an Adjunct Faculty member teaching Human Resource Management courses at Capital University.

In addition, Joan continues to manage her small business as the President and Founder of Strategic Solutions, an HR consulting and continuing education provider company. She has over 30 years of HR and business experience serving as a Training Manager, Zone Manager of Human Resources, Director of Human Resources, and Vice President of Human Resources and Risk Management in the private, public, non-profit, and educational sectors.

She currently holds two professional certifications: the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Human Resources Institute and the Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) from the Society for Human Resource Management

Professionally Joan serves as the College Relations Director for the Ohio Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) State Council, has been a member of the Ohio SHRM State Council for 18 years, and she served as the Director of the Ohio SHRM State Council in 2008 and 2009. She is a member of the Human Resources Association of Central Ohio and served as an officer on the Board of Directors for 10 years and as the President of the Association in 2001. Joan also serves as the Student Chapter Advisor for the AU HR Student Chapter.

She is a frequent workshop presenter and has been cited numerous times in publications such as Business First and Columbus CEO.
