Biography

Dr. Michael Cox has been with the Capital University Conservatory of Music since 1990 as Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies. He has been the recipient of several grants and merit awards, was awarded tenure and full professorship in 1996, and is active in collaboration with faculty colleagues and alumni in addition to mentoring current students in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. In addition to teaching, Michael performs with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the Columbus, Lancaster, and Newark Symphony Orchestras, the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, and a diversity of groups including the Ellington repertory chamber ensemble Such Sweet Thunder, the Black Swamp Saxophone Quartet, the High Street Stompers Dixieland Band, the Powerhouse Trio, and the jazz/fusion/funk band known as Flippo. Michael holds a Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado, a Master’s degree from Wichita State University, and a Bachelor’s degree and Distinguished Alumnus 2000 Award from Cameron University in his home town of Lawton, Oklahoma.
