Jazz Pedagogy Emphasis

The MMME program at Capital University offers three areas of emphasis: Choral, Instrumental, and Jazz Pedagogy. Mastering the essence of jazz is a creative and evolving process. And as a music educator, you want to instill your interest and love of jazz in your students. The program is focused on growing teaching and performance skills and was designed for working teachers who can participate in coursework during their summer break. During a few short weeks over three summers, you’ll join other educators in classes, workshops, and performances. You’ll be challenged to think and lead in new ways and be prepared to incorporate what you learn in the summer to your classes in the fall.

The MMME Jazz Pedagogy Program

Our Masters of Music programs are designed for teachers like you. We understand that your work doesn’t end with the school year. If you are running a summer band program, you can enroll in one of our two summer sessions and still earn your master’s degree in only three summers. As a Jazz Pedagogy student, you have the opportunity to participate in the Conservatory’s Complete Band Director Workshop, a four-day event held each summer. The Workshop provides specialized instruction on how to establish, administer, and teach a well-balanced jazz band program. Not only will you learn valuable skills, but you can earn credit toward your degree.
