    College is expensive. We understand that. But study after study proves education is one of the best investments you’ll ever make. We are here to make it as affordable as we can for you and your family. The goal of our Financial Aid Office is to help bridge the gap between your family contribution and the full cost of your education, including tuition and fees, room and board and books.

    As a new applicant—whether you are a first-year or a transfer student—your first task is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once your application has been filed, you will be considered automatically for all available federal and state aid as well as merit- and need-based scholarships that Capital offers. The earlier you file, the greater opportunity you will have to qualify for all available aid. For that reason, we recommend that you file anytime after October 1. Consult our financial aid timeline to determine application and decision dates or email a financial aid specialist to find out how we can help you and your family.

      Financial aid sources

      There are lots of sources for financial aid awards, but they can be categorized under three groups:

      • Merit and Recognition Scholarships and Grants, which recognize individual students for academic talent, service or leadership achievements 
      • Need-based Financial Assistance, which helps families meet the cost of attending Capital minus their family contribution. These can be grants or loans.
      • Other Sources of Financial Aid, like third-party awards from community groups, service organizations or private corporations; off-campus job opportunities; and federal or alternative loans

      Capital University is required by federal law to conduct verification of selected students’ financial aid. Get more information about the verification process.

    • First Steps
      Here are the steps you need to take:
      • Apply for an FSA ID and Password with the U.S. Department of Education (ED). These credentials will let you use various ED online systems and is necessary to electronically sign your FAFSA.  
      • File the FAFSA electronically. You will need Capital's Title IV Code, which is 003023. If you can’t file the FAFSA electronically, please contact the Financial Aid Office for additional guidance. 

      If you find yourself in unusual circumstances or have extraordinary information that can’t be included on your FAFSA, you can request a Special Circumstances Review after you submit your FAFSA.

      Once you have been accepted to Capital, you will be able to view your financial aid award on myCap. All you’ll need is your Capital username and password to access the site.
