CapFam Alumni Events Recap

Gold Happy Hour & Marathon Cheering
We stayed busy this October! It was a gorgeous fall evening for our GOLD Alumni Happy Hour at Land Grant Brewing Company in Columbus. More than 40 graduates of the last decade gathered over drinks to reconnect with friends old and new. A few days later, we were up and out early to cheer on our alumni participating in the Columbus Marathon. Along with members of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, we had all the energy gels, encouraging signs, and cheering our friends needed as they came down Drexel and past the gate.

Capital scores a touchdown at the Homecoming game

Homecoming
It was a great 2023 Capital Homecoming! Three beautiful fall days of celebration for alumni, offering many opportunities to connect with friends. Homecoming kicked off with the 50-Year Reunion, followed by the distinguished Annual Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame programs. A luncheon honoring graduates of 50 or more years was another a highlight of the weekend. The final day included an overflowing BBQ tailgate and fun activities leading up to the Pride of the Purple football game and a win over Otterbein.

Save the dates: October 3-5, 2024!

Cleveland Basketball Reception
Cleveland-area alumni gathered to watch Capital take on Baldwin Wallace in a thrilling victory for the Comets! After the game, the team, parents, and alumni came together at Brew Garden for great food, drinks, and conversation. It was just what we all needed to beat the winter blues!

Christmas Festival Receptions
The Alumni House was open to all alumni before the Friday and Saturday performances of the annual Christmas Festival, offering a cozy stop to have a drink and sweet treat before they went to the show. We had alumni from many generations come through, and enjoyed hearing their stories and watching different generations of CapFam mingle. We hope you’ll join us next holiday season!

Clippers Game
We were excited to have more than 100 alumni and friends join us for a night of baseball on June 7. It was a lovely evening as the Clippers took on the Louisville Bats. Attendees were able to spend time in the Tansky Club for refreshments and a unique view of the action. While the Clippers fell to the Bats, it was a great night for alumni to reconnect and reminisce!

Cincinnati Women’s Soccer
We travelled to Cincinnati to cheer on Capital Women’s Soccer as they took on Mount St. Joseph University. There was a tailgate set up prior to the match and we were able to connect with Cincinnati-area alumni and parents and family of current players. It was a beautiful Sunday for soccer in the Queen City.

Panelists

Veterans Memorial and Museum
Recognizing that Capital University is richer because of the experiences that our veterans and those who support them bring to our community, Capital hosted the Alumni Veterans Reception to celebrate and honor the service of all who have answered the call to duty. The event was held in July at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum and featured a panel of three veterans, two alumni and one staff member. The program was followed by a reception and tours offering the opportunity for alumni to reconnect and share special memories.

Moulin Rouge Event
More than 100 Capital alumni joined students from the Conservatory of Music in attending a glitzy night at the Ohio Theatre to experience the spectacle of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.” Following a reception, Capital attendees enjoyed the amazing Tony Award-winning musical. Then to make a special night even more special, an exclusive “talk back” was held for Capital attendees. The intimate Q&A session was narrated by the show’s musical director and Capital alum Andrew Graham ‘97, and included cast members, musicians, and dancers who answered the students’ questions and shared personal stories about the show and life on the road in a national tour. For one night, Capital University was located on a Parisian street.
