Note from the President

It was just a few months before I became Capital’s 17th president that the University published the last issue of CAPITAL Magazine, a casualty of the pandemic’s far-reaching effects. Over the last four years, I have often heard alumni and friends express a need for the magazine to keep them connected to their Capital Family.

We listened, and today, you hold the magazine’s latest edition, a symbol of our commitment to reconnect with the Capital Family. In addition, we have launched a new online version, a digital platform that allows us to share bonus copy, photos, and videos, further enhancing the Capital story.

Throughout the University’s 194-year history, Capital has been a vibrant and innovative leader in higher education, transforming lives through empowering academic, co-curricular, and professional experiences.

Significant progress has been achieved in implementing our strategic plan, which focuses on academic excellence and student success. We have launched new graduate programs, expanded athletics, invested in international opportunities, implemented the Institute for Creative Leadership at Work, and monetized select real estate to better support our mission.

We have also taken significant steps to position Capital for the future. Like many institutions, enrollment challenges persist, driven by demographic trends, lower participation rates, lack of preparedness, and lingering pandemic effects. Our plans include aligning our budgets with our priorities, investing in revenue-generating opportunities, expanding student success resources, and pursuing partnerships with other institutions.

The financial support of our alumni, friends, and foundations is the lifeblood of our institution. It’s your generosity that allows us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Capital students today and tomorrow. We are truly blessed to have a Capital community that believes in the transformative power of a Capital education and pays it forward. Your contributions are a testament to your belief in our mission and we are deeply thankful for them.

On behalf of the Capital Family, I am proud to share this edition of CAPITAL Magazine. I invite you, as valued members of the Capital Family, to join me in making a difference in the future of this University, its students, faculty, and staff.

In appreciation of your support and engagement,
