Biography

Dr. Jan Squires is Executive Professor at Capital University. He teaches the MBA 500 Foundations core course and MBA electives, including Advanced Topics in Finance and Leadership. He also advises and mentors MBA students on academic and career issues.

Prior to joining Capital, Dr. Squires spent 16 years in various senior leadership roles, which included leading a 175-person team located in the US, London, and Hong Kong with responsibility for technology and strategic product development. He also served a three-year expatriate assignment in Hong Kong, responsible for business operations and market development in the Asia Pacific region.

Dr. Squires’ earlier academic career spanned nearly 25 years, culminating as a tenured Professor of Finance. He was named a University Fellow in Teaching and received a University Award for Teaching. He served on numerous departmental, college, and university committees, including Faculty Senate, Academic Relations, Curriculum, and Accreditation. He was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Midwest Finance Association and published in numerous journals including the Journal of Economics and Finance, Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics, and Journal of Financial Education. He co-authored book chapters in Managing Investment Portfolios (3rd) and International Investments (5th) and wrote numerous papers and articles for professional conferences and trade publications.

Dr. Squires earned the D.B.A. degree with a specialization in finance from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He also earned M.B.A. and B.S.B.A degrees from the Harmon College at the University of Central Missouri and an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from the Sloan School at MIT. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from CFA Institute. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Delta Sigma Pi fraternities.
