    We are so ready to welcome you to campus. From move in for residential students, to academic meetings with your departmental faculty, to a campus-wide Cap-a-Palooza event – we’ve got you covered on helping you get connected, meeting a ton of new friends, and fully immersing yourself in life at Cap. Check out the schedule below – we’ll be adding new events for the next couple of weeks.

    You should plan to spend Saturday, August 21 – Tuesday, August 24 with us for Welcome Weekend – you won’t want to miss a thing! Check out a preliminary schedule of events below. More details will be shared in CAP 101 and via your email in August

    Saturday, August 21, 2021

    8am-1pm: Move-in
    Location: Residence Halls
    Follow the directions in your move-in mailing.

    10am-1pm: Vaccination Clinic
    Location: Harry C. Moores Student Union, Schneider
    We are happy to partner with Equitas Health to offer a vaccination clinic right on campus, in case your student needs any of the vaccinations required/recommended by Capital. You can learn more about Capital's policy here. Equitas will offer the following vaccines: COVID, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV, Meningitis, MMR, Polio, and Tdap. Walk-ins will be accepted but pre-registration is strongly encouraged here: https://go.oncehub.com/CapitalVaccineClinic.

    10am-2pm: All Student Check-in/ Capital Kick-off
    Location: Capital Center
    Learn about local businesses, restaurants, and campus resources after checking in and receiving orientation materials.

    11am-2:00pm: CapFam BBQ
    Location: Capital Center
    Enjoy a relaxing lunch with great food and music!

    2:30pm: Ringing in the new CapFam!
    Location: Capital Center
    Gather in front of the Capital Center as the Capital University Victory Bell rings to welcome the newest members of the CapFam!

    3-3:30pm: Opening Ceremony
    Location: Capital Center Arena
    President Dave Kaufman, faculty, and staff formally welcome new students to the #CapFam.

    3:45pm: Gate Ceremony
    Location: Memorial Gateway
    Take the traditional walk through the Memorial Gateway to signify joining the Capital family.

    4:05pm: New CapFam Picture
    Location: Renner Lawn

    4:15pm: “See you Soon!”
    Location: All over campus
    At this time, we ask that all families say their ‘see you soons!’ to their students so that our students can attend their first residence hall or commuter meetings!

    4:30pm: Residence Hall/Commuter Meetings
    Location: Residence Hall floors/ Commuters: Harry C. Moores Student Union, Schneider North
    Meet your RAs to go over community standards and information. Also, get to know your hallmates and other commuters.

    5:30-8pm: OL Group Time
    Location: Schaaf Lawn
    Find your group around Schaaf Lawn and meet your Orientation Leaders! They will be your guides during your transition to Capital and are there to ensure you have the best experience possible.

    8-11pm: Casino Night
    Location: Fountains
    Rain location: Cap Center
    You are formally invited to Capital’s Casino Night; theme: semi-formal, if you’d like – come as you, regardless! Featuring games and fun food, you can spend the night under the stars for a chance to win! Will you win big?

    All weekend: Campus Resource Introductions
    Get to know the offices and people who will be working with you to help you have a successful career at Capital! Your Orientation Leaders will give you all the important information!

    10 – 11am: Interfaith Service
    Location: Gloria Dei Chapel
    Come join the #CapFam in an interfaith worship event that flows out of Capital’s contemporary Lutheran values and features a number of local interfaith partners and practices from across campus and throughout the Columbus community.

    2pm: Understanding How to Support our CapFam
    Location: Mees Hall
    The Capital community is one that is welcoming and supportive. In this session, students will learn about the various identities, beliefs, and experiences that make up the campus community. With this learned and previous knowledge, students will be empowered to support and be supported, understand, and uplift all members of our campus community. 

    3:30 – 6:30pm - GameFest
    Location: Schaaf Lawn
    Come socialize by playing lawn games, board games, and video games. Challenge your OLs to a battle!

    8:30-11pm: Late Night Movie on the Lawn
    Location: Renner Lawn
    Rain Location: Huntington Recital Hall
    Enjoy popcorn and a movie on the big screen!

    10pm-12am: Foam Party
    Location: Schaaf Lawn
    Time to celebrate while we light up the night, it’s glowing down!

    9am: Academic Welcome
    Location: Mees Auditorium
    Join Provost Fournier and the Capital faculty for your official welcome to the academic community at Capital University.

    9:30am - 12pm: Academic Morning
    Location: All over campus
    Learn more about your chosen field of study and academics at Capital from the faculty in your department.

    1:30-6pm: Explore Columbus!
    Enjoy some relaxing time on campus or hanging out in Bexley… or take part in one of our Columbus excursions. Sign up online, at Welcome Weekend Check-in, or check with your OL for availability.

    8:00pm: Hypnotist Sailesh
    Location: Conservatory of Music, Mees Auditorium
    It's the first social activity with your new classmates, and it's designed to kick Welcome Weekend off right. Laugh with and be amazed by award-winning hypnotist Sailesh as he hypnotizes your new friends and maybe even you!

    9:30pm: Bonfire
    Location: Schaaf Lawn
    Enjoy a bonfire, music and s'mores!

    9:30pm: Haunted Capital Tour
    Location: Tours leave from the Student Union steps
    Take a late- night tour around campus and hear supernatural stories of locations rumored to be haunted.

    Tuesday, August 24, 2021

    10am: No Zebras: Be the Change
    Location: Conservatory of Music, Mees Auditorium
    In this program focused on engaging bystanders in the fight against sexual aggression, learn tips and tricks to keep Capital a safe community.

    11 – 11:30am: Small Group Discussions
    Location: All over campus
    Meet with your OLs and your Welcome Weekend group to deconstruct the Speak About It performance and learn more about Capital’s policies and practices.

    1-5pm: Target Shuttles
    Location: Depart from Student Union lobby
    Did you forget something? Don’t want to worry about your car? Just jump on the shuttle and head out to pick up all the little things you forgot!

    2:30-5pm: Open Campus!
    Location: all over campus
    Buildings are open so you can find your class locations. Offices across campus will also be open to get any questions answered before classes begin.

    3:30-5pm: Treats with the Greeks
    Location: Student Union Lawn
    Rain Location: Harry C. Moores Student Union, Schneider
    Come gain some sweet knowledge about our Capital fraternity and sorority community and enjoy a sweet treat!

    6 – 9pm: Cap-a-palooza
    Location: All over campus
    Enjoy music, inflatables, carnival games, and more at this Welcome Weekend extravaganza! Enjoy food trucks and enter a raffle to win cool prizes!
