Robert and Margaret Carolla Award
In September, 2024, the Robert and Margaret Carolla Award was established for students who present their research at professional conferences, with preference given to students in good academic standing at Capital University who are enrolled in a pre-health and healthcare -related majors.
How to apply
Student Eligibility Requirements
Student(s) must be enrolled as full time student(s) in good academic standing at Capital University.
Student(s) must be planning to present or has presented undergraduate research or scholarly project at an academic conference.
Student(s) must be willing to share their undergraduate research or scholarship experiences with the campus community.
Student(s) must be willing to have the University publicize their name(s), photograph(s) and research project information.
Nomination Procedure
Faculty mentors of the student researchers are asked to nominate candidates for the Robert and Margaret Carolla Award.
Selection Procedure: A faculty and staff panel reviews and assesses the conference abstract submitted by the nominated students.
The winner(s) of the Robert and Margaret Carolla Award is announced at the Honors Convocation each spring.

2026 Carolla Award Winner
Medhane Negasi won the Carolla Award for his research conducted with Dr. Kim Lascko and Jaden Tugaoen “Antimicrobial Activity of Purified Thymol Compared with a Botanical Thymus vulgaris Tincture Against Canine Oral Microbiota” which will be presented at the Ohio Branch of the American Society for Microbiology (OBASM), Bowling Green, Ohio, in April 2026.
2025 Carolla Award Winner
Joy Ayinde won the Carolla Award for presenting her research “Evaluation of Iron Deficiency in Menstruating Adolescents at Nationwide Children’s Primary Care Clinics” at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio and the Annual Medical Education Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
