Academic Support

With a commitment to academic excellence, we work with Academic Success to provide students study skills and tutoring assistance from peer tutors. Additionally, we co-sponsor workshops on time management and other classroom skills.

Celebrations of Cultural Diversity

The Diversity and Inclusion Office promotes and develops culturally diverse programs that bring students together to talk about contemporary issues from diverse perspectives. We encourage you to actively participate in civic engagement on issues of diversity and inclusion. Students are welcome to share their expressions of identity and cultural awareness at programs such as: Diwali, Hispanic Heritage Dinner, Celebration of Diversity, Seder Dinner, Pre-Kwanzaa celebration, National Coming Out Day and the annual Sande/Poro Graduation ceremony and dinner.

Ruach

Donuts and Divine is a conversation about how your spiritual and moral beliefs impact you. It’s a conversation about finding connections between your beliefs and current events.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning

Every January, the Capital University community celebrates the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning. Students, staff and faculty are instrumental to the success of the day’s events. Members of the Central Ohio community delight in an opportunity to be challenged by the keynote speaker; engage in meaningful dialogue with students, staff and faculty during the workshops; and enjoy the hospitality of our campus.

The Dish

A weekly program designed to spur critical-thinking skills, increase awareness about local and global issues, foster an environment for a more informed and engaged citizenry, stimulate class discussion and debate, initiate a habit of lifelong learning, and create a connection between classroom concepts and real-world experiences.

Smooth Transitions

Smooth Transitions is a pre-orientation program designed to support the introduction, matriculation and retention of students of color, difference, their allies, and first-generation students. Students are assigned to a group led by two peer mentors who guide them through the transition to college.

Leadership Circle

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion works with student organization leaders to create a climate of inclusiveness through student-initiated intercultural awareness and appreciation. We support and serve as a resource for diverse student groups; learn to navigate the university system; enhance their programming and community-building skills; better lead their organizations; improve event planning and management; as well as increase collaboration with all student organizations. All Capital students are encouraged to join shared-interest student organizations.
